NYC Big Bold Mascara Review and Swatches

~$4 at Walmart, drugstores, Ulta

"WHEN IT COMES TO LASHES, BIGGER IS DEFINITELY BETTER! NYC’s Big Bold Mascara takes your lashes to the extreme: up to 15 times more volume and up to 44% visible increase in length. How do they do it? A little simple math: a hydrating keratin-rich formula plus volume fixation technology plus NYC’s fattest, super-volumizing brush, equals some seriously eye-popping lashes! Clump-resistant, long-wearing, and bigger than ever before!"

The description really makes it look too good to be true, doesn't it?

Upon buying it I thought the brush was going to have rubber bristles.  When I opened it for the first time my thoughts were - this isn't gonna work.  It didn't.

The mascara itself isn't the bad part, it's the humongous brush and stopper. The stopper is too wide and too much product is gets on the brush.  It was seriously clump city when I first tried it.  Even after thoroughly wiping off the brush, still lots of clumps and weighed-down lashes.

The brush is HUGE and made of a hard, slightly flexible plastic.

Le lashes using huge-ass brush

It doesn't look that awful from the picture but it just feels and looks gross to me.

Good thing is, the brush isn't compensating for something  *wink wink*
The formula is quite good.  Nice volume and a lot of length.  Flakes and smudges a bit by the end of the day.

Here are my lashes after combing them out.  Much better.

An extra picture - using another brush (Avon SuperShock brush)

Pros
Cruelty Free
Gives a lot of length
Decent volume
Removes easily with eye makeup remover

Cons
Horrible brush
Will clump if you don't wipe the brush
Stopper is too wide so there is way to much product on the brush
Smudges and flakes a bit by the end of the day

Overall
7/10

If you have luck with NYC's other mascaras, I'd say try it.  But if not, it may not be worth the hassle.
Personally not something I will buy again.
